Reverend Peter Michael Jorgensen, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widower of Barbara McDonald Currey, wife of 38 years, entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 10, 2020. A Graveside Service will be on Sunday, May 30, 2021, in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Peter was born September 3, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of the late Col. Kenneth Jorgensen and the late Elizabeth Michaelis Jorgensen. He graduated from Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary. After Seminary, he served a tour as a Navy Chaplain and then as associate pastor in several churches in North and South Carolina. He was the former associate pastor for Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, afterwards he worked with his wife in private practice as a marriage and family counselor. He continued his pastoral calling serving interim positions at Rockville Presbyterian, James Island Presbyterian, Heritage Presbyterian, Hebron Zion Presbyterian, and Harbor View Presbyterian churches. He received much joy from his pastoral calling, officiating weddings and from his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons, Kenneth Michael Jorgensen (Laurie) of Park City, UT, Eric Preston Jorgensen (Teresa) of Woodstock, GA and Jeffrey Bouldin Jorgensen (Michelle) of Reva, VA; step-son, Patrick Currey of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three step-daughters, Nancy Currey of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kathleen Currey (Bob Tincher) of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Douglass Currey of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister, Penelope Sue Jorgensen Combs (Stephen Combs) of Wilmington, NC; and seven grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Karen Anne Jorgensen.
