Peter Jacob Harbert, 22, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. His funeral service will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Citadel Square Baptist Church, interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Citadel Square Baptist Church. There will be a reception at James Island Yacht Club following the burial until 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Peter was born March 30, 1996 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Ronnie Alan Harbert and Connie Thomson Harbert. Peter was a City of Charleston lifeguard beginning in the summer of 2015 and was recognized by City Council in December of 2016 for his efforts in rendering aid to two gunshot victims in August of that year. He spoke 5 languages, Arabic, English, French, German and Spanish. Peter served two internships, the first being at the Morocco News from February 2017 until May 2017, where he had two articles published. He served his second internship with the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation in Washington, DC from June 2017 until August 2017. He also served as an office assistant at Wofford College. Peter was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. He was a 2018 graduate of Wofford College with a double major in International Relations and French.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two sisters, Rebecca A. Harbert of Charleston, SC and Emily E. Harbert of Charleston, SC; maternal grandparents, John C. Thomson and Marian J. Thomson of Andrews, SC; four aunts, Sherry H. Ford, Sandra H. Payton (Sandy), Katherine T. Roberts (Daniel) and Cheryl Harbert; one uncle, John C. Thomson Jr. (Lisa) and numerous cousins.
Peter was predeceased by his paternal grandfather and namesake, Forrest "Pete" E. Harbert; maternal grandmother, Dorothy L. Harbert and his aunt, Karen Harbert Wiggins.
