Peter Schuyler Coleman

June 4, 1953 — November 14, 2016

Peter Schuyler Coleman, 63, of Awendaw, South Carolina died peacefully at home on Monday, November 14, 2016.

Peter was born June 4, 1953 in Charleston, SC, son of the late William Chisolm Coleman and the late Katharine Donald Coleman. He was retired from the position of Exhibits Coordinator at the Charleston Museum.

Peter attended the Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, Santa Fe Junior College in Gainsville, Florida, and the College of Charleston. But beyond this he was self-educated in the areas of natural history, including herpetology, icthyology and avian biology.

Peter was an avid musician and fan of many different music genres. He was a talented photographer and an expert in the design and production of historical and natural history exhibits. He could regale his listeners for hours on any number of subjects from the biology of microscopic organisms to the wonders of the cosmos. He maintained his wry sense of humor to the end of his days.

He loved his family and the fact that he could spend the last few years of his life in Awedaw close to them. He was faithfully attended during his difficult last days by his son-in-law and "Wingman" Joey.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sheila Marian Coleman; daughter Felicia Marian Von Dohlen (Joey); a granddaughter, Schuyler Von Dohlen; and a grandson, Wilkins Von Dohlen. He is also survived by his five siblings, William Chisolm Coleman, Jr. (Bernadette Bohmann), Gordon Donald Coleman (Jean); Felicia Chisolm Coleman (Christopher Koenig), Katharine Coleman Danielson (LP), and Louise Coleman Sawyer (Neil).
