Col. Perry Lenwood Murray, SCANG, (Ret.), 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 14, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends Friday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Perry was born July 1, 1934 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Arthur Murray and Lucille Walters Murray. He was a graduate of Murray High School, and Palmetto Military Academy. He was a descendant of Arnold Murray the last surviving Confederate Soldier of South Carolina. He formerly worked for Thomas and Howard Company, Standard Warehouse Company. He retired from the South Carolina National Guard, with the rank of Colonel. He also was a former Commander of the Washington Light Infantry, former Berkeley County Judge and he believed in the Good Lord.
He is survived by his two sons, Perry L Murray, Jr. of Lyman, SC, Bruce Murray (Sherleen) of Birmingham, AL; two daughters, Donna Early Jackson of Moore, SC, Cheryl Murray of Newport, NC; former wife, Janette Murray of Lyman, SC; three grandchildren, Zach Hough of Birmingham, AL, Eric Early of Lyman, SC, Chelcy Dunn (Justin) of Lyman, SC, Pate Murray of Birmingham, AL; two great-grandchildren, Neylyn Dunn, Layklen Dunn of Lyman, SC; special friends, Brittany Cobb, Caitlynn Holley; sister, Mary Sue Hicks of Ladson, SC, and brother, Danny Murray of Charleston, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
