Peggy B. Woodall

December 13, 1931 — December 27, 2015

Peggy Irene Blackhurst Woodall, 84, of North Charleston, entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016, in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1150 East Montague Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Peggy was born in London, England, on December 13, 1931 to Walter and Emma Blackhurst. She was the youngest of 5 children. She had 3 sisters and a brother. As a young girl, Peggy endured evacuations from London to the English countryside during Nazi bombings. She was a wonderful storyteller and had an amazing sense of humor, made all the more special by her quick British wit. Peggy married a young Army private named Gordon E. Woodall on December 16, 1952. After some time in Camden and the addition of their two children, they eventually followed one of Peggy's sisters and settled in North Charleston, SC. All four Blackhurst sisters eventually ended up settling in the Charleston area where they raised their families together and remained the best of friends and close family for their entire lives.

Surviving is her husband: Gordon E. Woodall of N. Charleston; daughter: Kim (Inky) Woodall of Moncks Corner; son: Russell (Beth) Woodall of N. Charleston; beloved and precious grandchildren: Catherine Hart Lynch, Melinda Lee Lynch, and Tracy Thompson, all of N. Charleston, and Matthew Woodall, of Goose Creek. Peggy is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends whom she also considered family. Peggy was predeceased by her parents: Walter and Emma Blackhurst; brother: Charlie Hall, of London, England; sisters: Patricia Taylor, Florence Fludgate, and Joan Young, all of Mt. Pleasant; her brothers-in-law; and many other loved ones whom she dearly missed.

Peggy believed in the bonds of family and was never happier than when surrounded by her family, sharing funny family stories and eating cake. While she became a United States citizen, she remained very British to her core. Her lovely English accent and British charm won over everyone who was lucky enough to meet her. Peggy was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in North Charleston. She had a strong and abiding faith in God and believed that angels walk amongst us. It is the fervent belief of her family that she now has her own angel wings and watches over us all.
