Peggy Booze Reeves Whaley, 94, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed from this life peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She has moved on to her spiritual home after a beautiful life of service to her Lord, family and community. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Peggy was born September 10, 1930 in Covington, Virginia, daughter of the late Charles Russell Booze and Florence Ruley Booze. In 1940, the family moved to Charleston where her father took a position at the Naval Shipyard building ships for the approaching World War II. Their first home was in government housing - Ben Tillman Homes. They would later buy a home in North Charleston. Peggy attended Ben Tillman Elementary, and graduated from Chicora High School and later Rice Business College.
She became a Christian when she was 17 years old and was a very active member of First Baptist Church of North Charleston. When she married the love of her life, Channing Reeves, they moved to West Ashley and joined Ashley River Baptist Church. They began their family and were very active in their church and community. During the following years, being with family was very important to them, including picnics at Hampton Park, waterskiing the Edisto River, working out in the family gym, spending time at the family beach house on the Isle of Palms, and camping in the North Carolina mountains. Mom loved her home, raking leaves and planting flowers. Feeding the birds and filling the birdbath with water, gave her joy. Their home always had an open door policy - friends, school mates, cousins, neighborhood children - all loved coming over to their home. And all the family traditions that were established over the years brought Peggy much pleasure, holding hands for the blessing, Christmas morning breakfast and reading the Christmas story from the Bible. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments.
Peggy retired from the OB/Gyn Association in 1989. She and Channing enjoyed some traveling until his death in 1994. She then moved to Mt. Pleasant to be near her daughter where she joined the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. In 2001 she married George A. Whaley. He was loved by her children and grandchildren. They continued family traditions and did some traveling until his death in 2010.
Besides her parents, her brother, Charles R. Booze, Jr., and her late husbands, Channing and George, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Reeves Chapin, and her son, William "Bill" Dennis Bryant Reeves.
She is survived by her son, Keith Channing Reeves (Wendy) of Beaufort, SC; her daughter, Alice Reeves Botts (Joe) of Mount Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren, Peter Matthew Chapin, Jenny Chapin Fielding (Julius), Channing Lane Botts (Chris Jenkins), Lorin Botts Richter (Chris), and William Joseph Reeves Botts (Victoria); four great grandchildren, Logan Gail Chapin, Aleena Chapin, William Richter, and Christian Richter; and her stepdaughter, Aunt Susan Whaley Miles (John). She is also survived by her beloved cat, Cody.
Due to the heat of the season, the family asks that guests dress lightly and comfortably for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
