Peggy Jean Rumph, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Gerald Rumph, entered into eternal rest Friday, December 18, 2015. The family will receive friends Monday, December 21, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy. Her funeral service will be held in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Rumph Family Cemetery, Givhans, SC.
Peggy Jean Rumph was born October 26, 1936 in Marietta, Georgia, daughter of the late Joseph Gaston Hollis, Jr. and Augusta McFadden Saye Hollis. Peggy Jean was a typical 60's mother. She was involved in PTA, Sunday School, Garden Club member and Scouts. In 1967, her family moved to Mt. Pleasant and she studied Floral Design. She worked for Belva's and Blanche Darby Flower Shop. The remaining 20 years of her career, she worked in the Cancer Registry at MUSC, and she served as a past president of the State Tumor Registry.
She was predeceased by her mother, Augusta McFadden Saye Hollis and father, Joseph Gaston Hollis, Jr. and brother, Joseph Gaston Hollis III, and a very special aunt, Margaret Saye. She is also survived by her former spouse, William H. Gilden.
She is survived by her two sons: Billy Gilden (Katie) of Rodman, S.C. and Jody Gilden (Traci) of Lexington, S.C.; Gerald's loving children; Kimberly Rumph of Charlotte, N.C. and Wesley G. Rumph of Charleston, S.C.; brother, James Saye Hollis (Judy) ; grandchildren: Sarah Brady, Jay Brady, Suzanne Zais, Bradley Zais, Will J. Gilden, Corey H. Gilden, Jordan H. Gilden, and Joshua D. Rumph; great-grandchildren: Augusta Clare Zais and May Rives Zais; and several nieces and nephews.
