Peggy Meadows Norton, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late John Halsey Norton, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013. Her funeral service will be held at the Graveside at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 27, 2013 in the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Peggy was born February 4, 1925 in Roanoke, Virginia, daughter of the late Rev. Alfred Clifton Meadows and the late Mabel Glenn Meadows. She was raised in Galax, Virginia, and attended Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia and Radford College in Radford, Virginia, where she received a B.A. Degree.
She married her husband of 67 years, the late John Halsey Norton in October 1946. Following their marriage, they lived in Columbus, Ohio, and later in Pensacola, Florida, Newark, Delaware, Geneva, Switzerland, and Mount Pleasant. She and her husband also had homes in Jupiter and Sarasota, Florida.
Activities she enjoyed were playing piano and bridge and needlepoint, as well as interior decoration.
Peggy is survived by a daughter, Susan Norton Minor and her husband, Robert of Nashville, TN; son, John H. Norton, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Mount Pleasant, SC; three grand-daughters, Thornley Minor McWilliam and her husband, David, Dana Norton, and Laura Norton; and two great-grandsons, James McWilliam and Robert McWilliam. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Clifton Meadows, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
