Surrounded by family at his home in Wando, SC, Paul Stanley Douglas went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on January 25, 2018.
Born March 9, 1939 to David Rowan Douglas and Zada Merle Smith Douglas in Deland, FL, the family moved to Brunswick during the war years. Paul spent most of his life in Brunswick and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1957. Later that same year he married the love of his life, Rubinette McQuaig of Darien.
Paul worked for Independent and Herald Life Insurance companies for many years before entering the paper and chemical distribution business as a partner in SunCoast Paper Company where he was President and Director of Operations until his retirement in 2014.
Paul never met a stranger. Their home was always open and many became part of the extended family of friends through the years. His warmth and generosity touched many lives. Above all of those relationships, though, was his family - both immediate and extended. He was a devoted husband and father: He and Rubinette reared five children: Karen, Lisa, Paula, John and Brittany. As the girls married, the family expanded to include three sons-in-law, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren (one on the way).
He was pre-deceased by his parents and daughter Lisa Ann Douglas. Paul is survived by his wife of more than sixty years, Rubinette McQuaig Douglas, daughters with sons-in-law Tony & Karen Bass, Joe & Paula Wells, Wenn & Brittany Biletzskov, and son John Stanley Douglas. He was Granddaddy to Megan Bass (husband Jeremy DeBarry), Blake Bass (wife Jaime Lynn Turner), Elaina Bass, Aaron Bass, Amelia Wells (husband Randy Wirth), Logan Wells. He was "Sugar" to great-grandchildren Zoe and Nora DeBarry, Emma and Hannah Wirth, Harper Bass, and Whitaker Biletzskov. He leaves a legacy of kindness, gentleness, and love poured into these and his many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
