Paul Olin Altman, 67, of Mt Pleasant, passed away December 14, 2017, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle against metastatic breast cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive at 10:30 am. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mt Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPELfrom 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm.
Paul was born February 7, 1950, in Charleston, SC, a son of Laurice Gaillard Altman and Pauline Sturcken Altman. He grew up in Georgetown, SC, and graduated from Winyah High School in 1968. He received an associate's degree at Midlands Tech, and his bachelor's degree at Limestone College. Paul served in the National Guard for seven years and was employed by the South Carolina Revenue Service for 45 years. Paul loved to be outdoors gardening, in his boat fishing, or on the golf course. He was also a loyal Gamecocks' fan. Paul was gifted with musical talent and was a good dancer. He was a long-time member of Christ Our King Catholic Church, a former member of the Choir and a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Paul's dream of an active retirement ended precipitously after the cancer returned.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Joy Young Altman, one son, Paul Gaillard Altman, two daughters, Gretchen Altman Ousley (Phil) and Kylie Altman Cribb (Brian), and four grandchildren, Katelyn Cribb, Cohen Ousley, Ava Ousley, and Presley Cribb, all of Mt Pleasant; three brothers, Laurice G. Altman, Jr. (Faye) of Georgetown, SC, Martin W. Altman (Sheri) of Parkersburg, WV, Donald J. Altman (Donna) of Beaufort, SC; one sister, Frances E. Green (Greg) of Georgetown, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a faithful companion, his little dog, Lucy.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Lutheran Hospice of Mt Pleasant, Paul's caregivers, as well as to the extended family, neighbors, and friends, who offered a helping hand in his hour of need.
