He was born December 5, 1963 in West Islip, New York, the son of the late Richard Leo Morrissey and the late Sophia Sobolewski Morrissey. Patrick was a proud graduate of the Naval Academy in 1986, cum laude, the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and he earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina, laying the foundation for his accomplished career.
Patrick dedicated a substantial part of his life to serving his country as a naval officer. His naval career brought him across Africa and the Middle East, and he later served in the Navy Reserves as Commanding Officer of DART 1 at the Naval Weapons Station - Charleston where he was deployed to Kuwait in 2003. During his nine years of active duty, Patrick served as a Surface Warfare Officer, first as Division officer on the USS DeWert and then Chief Engineer on the USS Halyburton homeported in Charleston. He also was a history instructor at the Naval Academy, where he shared his extensive knowledge and passion for history with future leaders of the Navy. Additionally, he served as a Blue and Gold officer in the Naval Academy’s admissions program and a service-academy interviewer for Senator Lindsey Graham.
Patrick spent most of his professional career as an attorney with Clawson and Staubes, where he garnered respect from his peers and clients alike. He was a devout Catholic attending weekly mass with his wife at Christ Our King and is a member of the church’s Patriarch men’s group. He also was on the Town of Mount Pleasant Historical Commission.
His legacy is marked by distinguished military service, significant contributions to education, an impressive legal career, and steward of the Catholic Church; most important to Patrick was his family who he dearly loved, especially his children and grandchildren who he instilled a love of history and cheered for them from the sidelines at many sports games.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 34 years, Julie; their son, Joseph Ferguson of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Caroline Roberts (LeRoy) of James Island, and Catherine Morrissey (Charles Klinefelter) of North Charleston; as well as three cherished grandchildren, Liam, Jacob, and Evelyn. Patrick is also survived by his brother, Dr. Richard Morrissey (Maryellen) of Rockville, MD and their five children - Kelly Willams (Mark), Chris Morrissey, Matt Morrissey (Lindsay), Sean Morrissey (Kelley), and Jenn Morrissey.
