Patricia Shauf, a devoted mother, loving grandmother, faithful Christian, and gracious friend, was born on June 25, 1946, in Liverpool, England. She lived most of her life in Pennsylvania before moving to Charleston, South Carolina, five years ago to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and family. It was there that she spent her remaining years surrounded by those she loved so dearly.
Patricia was a woman of a particularly tender heart and sweet disposition. She possessed a gentle spirit, a generous love for others, and a warmth that made people feel welcome in her presence. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a creative mind, and a genuine appreciation for the beauty and simple pleasures of life. She loved people, and she loved dogs almost as much! Those who knew her will remember her kindness, her laughter, her thoughtfulness, and the quiet but unmistakable way she made life sweeter for those around her.
A nurse by profession and a devoted mother by calling, Patricia gave much of her life to caring for others. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, and her decision to move south was motivated by her desire to be near her children and grandchildren. She treasured the time she spent with them and delighted in being part of their lives.
Patricia had many interests and loved collecting antiques, gardening, music, and the theater. She loved to sing, and from her youth was a faithful participant in church choirs and local community choruses. Music was a lifelong source of joy to her, as was attending plays and musicals. She had an eye for things beautiful and a particular fondness for the old and treasured.
Christmas, however, held a special place in her heart. It was her favorite time of year, and she embraced all its festivities with enthusiasm and delight. From baking Christmas cookies to preparing wassail, she loved the traditions that made the season so special. She passed that love on to her children and grandchildren, creating memories and traditions that will continue to be cherished for generations. Her love of Christmas was, in many ways, a reflection of her own spirit: warm, joyful, generous, and full of love.
Above all, Patricia was a woman of deep and abiding Christian faith. She was a member of Altoona Bible Church in Altoona, Pennsylvania, before moving to Charleston, where she joined St. Philip's Church. Her faith was central to her life, and she sought to love what was noble, lovely, and good. She found her hope and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ, and her family takes comfort in the assurance that, having finished her earthly journey, she is now with Him. We grieve her passing deeply, but not as those who have no hope, for we trust in the promises of our Lord and the hope of everlasting life.
Patricia is survived by her two sons, The Reverend Jeffrey Scott Miller and his wife, Kristin, and Christian Jon Miller; her five grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller Jr. and his wife, Briley; Jackson Graham Miller and his wife, Sydney; Cora Elizabeth Miller; Josiah Lee Miller; and Raelynn Miller; her sister, Jeanne Hite; and her brother, Ronald Mock, and his wife, Sharon, both of Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind many beloved family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.
Patricia will be sorely missed. Her absence will be felt in countless ways-in family gatherings, in the traditions she lovingly established, in the songs she sang, in the gardens she tended, and in the simple kindnesses that were so characteristic of her. But the love she gave does not end with her passing. It lives on in her children and grandchildren, in the memories they will forever treasure, and in the example of a life marked by tenderness, generosity, and faith.
We give thanks to God for the gift of her life, for the privilege of having loved her, and for the assurance that we shall one day be reunited in the presence of our Lord.
A service of Christian burial will be held at St. Philip's Church in Charleston, South Carolina on Monday, November 9, 2026 at 11:00 am.
