Patricia "Pat" Ann Crosby Painter, 89, of Charleston, wife of the late William Frank Painter, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday, March 14, at Westminster Presbyterian Church followed by interment at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road.
The family will receive friends at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel on Wednesday, March 13, from 4-6 p.m.
Pat was born February 13, 1935, in Charleston, and was a daughter of the late Dwight Lyman Crosby and Thelma Branton Flood Crosby. After graduating from Rivers High School, she worked as a bank clerk before beginning her civil service career. She honorably retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after over 38 years of service and received numerous outstanding service awards during her career.
Pat was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang as an alto in the choir. She also sang for many years with the Charleston Singers Guild (now known as the Charleston Symphony Chorus).
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Patricia Matthews (husband Mike) of Houston; grandson, Benjamin Murphy Matthews, and granddaughter, Caitlin Merritt Matthews, of Houston, Texas; bonus daughter, Carla Hilton Lathbury, of Hollywood, South Carolina; two stepsons, William Frank Painter Jr. of Los Angeles, California, and Steven Michael Painter of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; three step-grandchildren, Bradley Ryan Painter of Houston, Texas, Valerie Sue Painter Sherpa (husband Jigme) of Daniel Island, South Carolina, and Matthew Hamilton Painter of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; her sister Barbara Jean Blackburn of Florence; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Charleston Animal Society, or any local animal rescue organization.
