Patricia Fryfogle Hartley, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Dr. Daniel Peyton Hartley, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 5, 2023. Her memorial service will be held Monday, November 13, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Historic Church, 440 Whilden Street, Mount Pleasant, SC with a reception to follow at Sam’s Hall. Interment will be held privately by the family later. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
Pat was born March 19, 1946, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, daughter of Kenneth and Norma Fryfogle. She attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated from Emory University. She taught in Charleston County school district and later worked as an educational evaluator, and she served on the South Carolina Foster Care Review Board for many years. After Dan graduated from dental school, they relocated to Clinton, SC where Pat taught hard-of-hearing children and later helped Dan manage his practice. Upon Dan’s retirement, they moved to Mount Pleasant where she enjoyed entertaining friends and family in style whether it was a Thanksgiving Feast or a Lowcountry Oyster Roast. Dan and Pat took many wonderful trips abroad, but her most cherished time was traveling with her granddaughter, Carsten, to many of the US National Parks during the summer months. She was a gentle soul with a calming nature about her - always kind, considerate and thoughtful. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her!
Along with her husband of 52 years, Dr. Daniel P. Hartley, Pat is survived by her daughter, Peyton Hartley Galatolie (Scott) of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Carsten Marie Galatolie; sister, Marilyn Hamer (Billy) of Fairview, NC; niece, McRae Hamer-Brooks (Jeff) of Charleston, SC; nephew, Lincoln Hamer (Lindsey) of Weaverville, NC and her beloved dog “Bubba”.
Memorials may be made to the MUSC Foundation/Dan & Patricia Hartley Scholarship (for students who plan to practice Dentistry in rural areas). Donations can be mailed to MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29425 or to Christ Church Anglican Building Fund and mailed to Christ Church Anglican, 3022 S. Morgans Point Road - #274, Mt.
