Patricia Ann Baird Hagstrom, 76, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully Monday, March 10, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born November 01, 1937 to the late J.W. and Vivian Baird in Columbia, South Carolina. She graduated from Columbia High School ('55) and received her Nursing Degree from Saint Francis School of Nursing in Charleston, South Carolina and also attended the Medical University of South Carolina.
After marrying the love of her life at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, she and her husband Bob of Summerville, South Carolina (Citadel Class of '57) relocated to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida where they have been lifelong residents. She began her devoted nursing career at Ft. Walton Beach Hospital. She also practiced nursing at Magnolia Medical Clinic with Drs. Robert Maxon and A. B. Russell while receiving her Master's Degree in Education. Upon completion, she began her second career as an instructor for the LPN program at Ft. Walton Beach Vocational/Technical School. After twenty five plus years of teaching she then became the Supervisor of Nursing at the Ft. Walton Beach Rehabilitation Center. Nursing was her passion and she will always be remembered for the love, kindness and tenderness she gave to each and everyone she came to care for. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and one of the most enthusiastic football fans of the Citadel Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Hagstrom of Ft. Walton Beach; daughter, Susan P. Hagstrom of Destin, FL; son Kenneth R. Hagstrom (Diana) of Lake Mary, FL; grandsons Kevin and Aaron Hagstrom; sister, Rebecca Johns (Roy) of Bath, SC; cousin Bonnie Blackberg of Columbia, SC; childhood friend "Pete" McCartha of Chapin, SC; very special in-laws; Dr. Nolan and Judy Schwerin; numerous nieces and nephews along with many other lifelong friends and patients from Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and South Carolina.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents J. W. and Vivian Baird and her brother, Thomas Baird.
A memorial mass was held on Saturday March 15, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
An interment service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerall Chapel on the Citadel Campus in Charleston, SC.
