Diane was born on September 10, 1946 in Charleston, SC, one of 15 children of David Means Powell, Jr. and Lola Liona Blackwell Powell. She was a former material controller in the Steel industry.

She is survived by her daughters: Denise Dean and her husband Michael Lane of Ladson, SC, Lisa Barnett and her husband Michael Clayton of Morristown, TN, Amanda Hutchison and her husband Russell "Bojo" of Ladson; five grandchildren: Michael Barnett Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Irene, John Michael Dean, Timothy Russell Dean, Carlie Renee Barnett, Heather Nicole Barnett; one great-grandchild, Austin Chase Barnett; sisters: Evelyn Garrett, Dora McKoon, Linda Burrelli and Bonnie Conley.
