Patricia "Trish" Hartman Boutan

Patricia (Trish) Boutan transitioned peacefully in her sleep into the bigger Life and presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 19, 2025. She was born and grew up in Greenwich, CT, the daughter of William and Lucille Hartman. She was the youngest of three sisters. The middle sister is Katherine (Katy) Thornblade (married to Nick). The eldest, was Jeanne An Hartman, predeceased.

Trish graduated high school from Rosemary Hall in 1970, and then attended Schiller College in Germany. She transferred after two years to Peabody College in Nashville, TN, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education in 1974. The most important event in her life happened while she was at Peabody. She became a Christian through a campus ministry. As a result of her positive influence, her family came to faith in Christ.

After college, she returned to Greenwich and worked as an orthodontist assistant. While attending a young adult Christian function, she met Marc Boutan who became her husband for 47 years. They married in 1977. In 1981 they moved to Brunswick, Maine, and later to Orr’s Island. She went to work in a large bookstore. In 1982, their son, Christian, was born, followed by daughter, Renee, in 1985. At this point she discovered her passion was to stay at home to raise the kids, and to commit herself to home schooling the children all the way through high school. Trish was also very interested the health of her family through good nutrition. She was tenacious and invested her whole heart. While they lived in Belgium, she made sure the family field trips went to important cultural locations, museums, and historical sites to take home schooling wherever they went. Son Christian (now married to Mattie) became a scientist, earning a PhD in Physics at the University of Washington; daughter Renee double-majored in French and Music Performance (flute) at Furman University.

Sister Katy describes Trish as, “A woman of Grace.” She was a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and artist. Her creativity showed in her yearly hand-drawn Christmas card. She also practiced calligraphy. Trish is remembered by friends as: a delight, kind, thoughtful, cheerful, a gentle spirit and smile that lifted others, a bright light, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Marc adds, “She is my precious friend and loving companion.”
