Pamela Jo Riggs

Pamela Jo Riggs, 79, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Charles Michael “Mike” Riggs, entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 12, 2024. Her Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

 Pamela was born April 4, 1945 in Gary, Indiana, daughter of the late Allan Buckreus and Doris Armanda Buckreus. After graduating college from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, she married her college sweetheart, Mike, in 1968. Pam and Mike lived in Ohio for many years, before relocating to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in 1980, where she resided until her death. 

 Pam’s adult life included many roles, from loving wife and mother to four children, to business owner and gardener extraordinaire. Her cooking was remarkable, and served as the centerpiece of family gatherings for decades. Pam was happiest in a full home, preferably hers, entertaining. Pam’s pride and joy was her four children and twelve grandchildren. Despite her recent declining health, she never missed a chance to be present for their life events. She showed up for her beloved family members in a way that will leave a vast hole for those that remain. 

 Up until the end of Pam’s life, she craved involvement and independence. She worked part-time for Suburban Fuels and took very seriously her role at work, as well as her time playing Bridge, and as the Treasurer of the East Cooper Ladies of Common Stock. She maintained treasured relationships with past employers and co-workers, and she rarely met a stranger around town. Time with friends filled her cup and despite her ever-growing health challenges, her laugh remained: authentic, warm, and infectious.  

She is survived by her brother, Michael Buckreus and his wife, and dear friend of Pam’s, Karen of Killen, Alabama; her four children and their spouses: Todd Riggs (wife, Barbara Burns Riggs) of Sylvania, Ohio, Amy Jo Riggs- Deckard (husband, Robert Deckard) of Statesboro, Georgia, John Riggs (wife, Cecelia Riggs) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Tara Boone (husband, Jonathan Boone of Mount Pleasant, SC); and her twelve grandchildren: Justin Riggs, Andrew Riggs, Charles Riggs, Carlos Riggs, Elizabeth Riggs, Henry Riggs, Xavier Deckard, Olyana Deckard, Jaxsen Riggs, Jonathan Boone Jr, Charles Boone, and Grady Boone.
