Pamela Tovey Quattlebaum, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016. She was born in Charleston, SC to the late H. Merrick Tovey and Katherine Landrum Tovey on June 10, 1946.
Pamela attended St. Andrews High School before attending the University of South Carolina, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1966. Pamela contracted Parkinson's Disease at an early age, and she became a tireless advocate raising awareness and treatment for the disease. As the disease advanced, she insisted on fully engaging with her friends, family and activities important to her. She became a role model to others suffering from Parkinson's. Pamela hosted and attended many fundraising events for Parkinson's, representing strength and beauty in spite of the disease.
Family and friends were Pamela's truest loves. She grew up hunting and hiking with her beloved father and sisters, and spent summers riding horses with her dearest friends. Recognizing Pamela's wonderful grace and poise, she was chosen as Miss Charleston in 1965. Pamela was an admired hostess to her friends, expressing her love for them through her charm and the exquisite way she entertained. Pamela and her husband, Alex, spent a great deal of their time at their home in Inverness, Scotland, where they entertained house and shooting parties for many years.
Pamela is survived by her husband, Alexander McQueen Quattlebaum, Jr.; her son, Timothy Merrick Hussey and his wife, Elise; her sisters, Kay Tovey and Susan Tovey Mixson and her husband, Lonnie; her step-sons: Alex Quattlebaum III and his wife, Kim, their sons, Mac and John Henry; Scott Quattlebaum and his wife, Marlene, and their daughter, Isabel, and Michael Quattlebaum.
