Pamela “Pam” Riley McGuire, 86, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 16, 2024. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel, one hour prior to the service.
Pam was born December 21, 1937 in Columbia, South Carolina, the eldest daughter of the late Robert F. Riley and Hilda Watson Riley. Pam was a graduate of Eau Claire High School, class of 1955, in Columbia, SC. She graduated from Midlands Technical College with a degree in Court Reporting using a stenotype machine to record spoken words in Stenographic shorthand. She was a secretary at REA Express in Columbia SC. After becoming a South Carolina Court Reporter she traveled throughout the state before relocating to Charleston where she worked in Downtown State Circuit Court. Later, relocating to Moncks Corner, SC, she worked in Family Court. After a long career working in the judicial system, she retired as a Family Court Reporter.
Pam was an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and sharing her love of history with her grandchildren. She especially loved to dance, shagging to beach music. Often times, she would reminisce of fond memories of dancing on the beach and at the pavilion to her favorite artists, The Drifters, The Tams, and Chubby Checker.
Surviving are: her loving children, Sherry Knopf Woods of Barnwell, SC; Julian Richard “Rick” Knopf, Jr. of Union, SC; Robyn Slawson Hills (Ricky) of Johns Island, SC; Grandchildren, Nick Woods (Kristina), Brandis Woods (Jeff), Riley Hills, and Hollyn Belle Hills; Great Grandchildren, Ben Woods, Thomas Woods, and Daniel Woods. Her younger siblings, Frances “Bonnie” Griffin (Claude) of Atlanta, GA; Darrell Joseph Riley of Columbia, SC; Sharon Riley Mathias of Columbia, SC; and Michael Sean Riley, Columbia, SC; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She also leaves behind her adoring bonus family of 9 step-children;14 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husbands, James E. McGuire, and John L. Payne; her brother, Robert F. “Laddie” Riley, Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Anne Rabb Knopf.
