Pamela Sue Pendergraft Hughes

Pamela Sue Pendergraft Hughes, 68, of Daniel Island, affectionately known as "Honey" to family and friends, passed away March 20, 2023, after a valiant battle against cancer. Her passing has left an aching void in the hearts of those who knew her.

Pamela was born with her twin sister Tamara on December 7, 1954, in Gridley, California, to Orion Franklin Pendergraft and Hazel Laurel Redwine. She attended Gridley High School before making the journey to South Carolina in 1989, where she dedicated herself to raising her two children. On February 19, 2000, she married the love of her life, Danny Hughes, and together they created a warm and inviting home on Daniel Island.

Pamela's passion for interior design and gardening was evident in the striking allure of her home and the many accolades she received for her garden, including several "Yard of the Month" honors. She reveled in sharing her space with loved ones, especially during the magic of the holidays. Pamela had a zest for life and loved to dance, travel, and support her grandchildren in their diverse pursuits. She was their biggest fan and would often make the trek to watch them play football, lacrosse and wrestle. Over the years she became an adopted grandmother to many of their friends and teammates. If you loved a member of Honey's family, you earned her love in return. She was admired for her infectious spirit, sense of fun, and discerning eye for beauty in the world. She left an indelible impression on all those who knew her.

Pamela adored her family and friends and will be deeply missed by her husband Daniel Sharpe Hughes, daughter Nicole (Nikki) Christine Jones and husband Gregory of Hampstead, NC, son Michael Adam McElveen and husband Bryan of North Charleston, SC, and step daughter Erin Burgess. Her grandchildren Andrew London Jones, Alexander Gregory Jones, and Nicholas Daniel Jones were the apple of her eye. Pamela is also survived by her siblings, Carl Adolphus Pendergraft, David Michael Pendergraft and wife Larita, and Tamara Lou Black and husband Mike, along with many cherished nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.

Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul Franklin Pendergraft, sister Debra Juanelle Pendergraft, and beloved dog Abby.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 2, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Her family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honor her life be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation at https://glioblastomafoundation.org/get-involved/donate

While Pamela's absence will be acutely felt, her cherished memory is a reminder of the profound impact that one person can have on the lives of many.
