Former City of Charleston First Assistant Fire Chief Otis E. Taylor entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 7, 2017, he was 86.The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL., 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Taylor, a South Carolina National Guard Veteran, was born December 2, 1930 to the late Oswald and Myrtle (Slawson) Taylor in Charleston, South Carolina. Chief Taylor was a member of the South Carolina Fire Fighter's Association and served the Charleston community for over 50 years in both the St Andrews PSD and City of Charleston Fire Departments.

His wife of 62 years, Martha W. Taylor and his brother Ronald O. Taylor, Sr., preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sisters Jean Lofton and Ann Craddock (Francis), his five sons, Gene Taylor (Barbara), Glenn Taylor, Gary Taylor (June), Gerald Taylor all of Charleston, SC; Robert Taylor of Asheville, NC; daughter, Gwen Kutch (Robert) of Charleston, SC, step-son, Gary Robinson; four grandchildren, Jennifer Loveday-Donovan (Jason), Gerald Brogan, Kile Taylor (Tiffany), Kevin Taylor (Missi), three step-grandchildren, Chris and Jennifer Graffeo, Robert Chapman and a great-grandson Dean Taylor.
