Otha Malloney Ludlum, 94, of North Charleston, SC died Monday, July 25, 2016. His funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Otha Malloney Ludlum was born 10/26/1921 in Shallotte, NC, son of George Mancey Ludlum and Myrtie Stanley Ludlum.Otha was married to Mary Griffin Ludlum for 43 years, who he met while in the Navy and stationed in Boston, Massachusetts.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary and siblings, Geneva Grissett, Ava Dixon, Ruby Mercer, Irene Walton, Vera Hewitt, William Ludlum, George Alton Ludlum and Louis Lorenzo (Lenzy) Ludlum. Otha is survived by his children, Robert Allen Ludlum (Kathie) of North Charleston, SC, Maureen L. McCrorie (Tom) of Hanahan, SC and David Malloney Ludlum of Cordesville, SC; five grandchildren, Robert Shawn Ludlum, Christopher M. Ludlum, Jennifer L. Dawson, Timothy B. Ludlum, and Matthew David Housand; four great-grandchildren, Brianna Ludlum, Brandon Ludlum, Luke Dawson and Jack Griffin Dawson and sister-in-law, Audrey Ludlum of Shallotte, NC.
Otha was recruited to join the Navy right out of the family's tobacco field. He made the Navy a career and retired after 22 years of service to his country during the Korean War and WWII. After moving his family from port to port, he finally made Charleston his home where he went to work at the Naval Supply Center. He loved his country and instilled his patriotic zeal in his children and others. He was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan! Otha was a member of Portside Baptist Church, North Charleston, SC. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at The Bridge at Charleston for all their loving and caring support in taking care of their father for the past three years, especially during his last days. And a heartfelt thanks as well to Beacon Hospice for providing outstanding nursing care. Your loving kindness will never be forgotten.
