OSCM Eymard "John" Willoughby, USN (Ret.), 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Dorothy Elizabeth Whiteley Willougby entered into eternal rest Tuesday, February 21, 2017. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
John was born August 5, 1926 in New York City, New York, son of the late James Willoughby and Mary Burton Willoughby. He served in the US Navy for 29 years and retired as a Master Chief. John was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and faithfully gave of his time and talents to the Church and the Daughters of St. Paul. He was his wife's devoted caretaker for 10 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Clelia Mary Shank of CA, three grandchildren, Christen Clelia, Lauren Lynn, John Paul; two great-grandsons Aden and Evan as well as many devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29410.
