MSC Oscar Vallido "Double O" Olaes, USN Ret., 72, of Goose Creek, SC, husband of Beatriz E. Olaes died Sunday, September 28, 2014. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue at 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Oscar was born March 12, 1942 in Noveleta, Cavite, Philippines, son of the late Fructuso Robles Olaes and the late Agripina Vallido Olaes. He was Past President of Caviteno Association (PI) and Perpetual Member of Aguinaldo Lodge (PI). He was also a Brother of Orient of SC Scottish Rite and Brother of the Omar Shrine Temple. Oscar was the first Filipino in Charleston selected to the Navy's All Star Softball team and also selected for the Greater Charleston USBC Association's All Star team. Oscar was an avid outdoorsman and a boxing and baseball fan. Most of all he was passionate about his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beatriz Olaes of Goose Creek, SC; son, Charles E. Olaes and his wife H. Victoria Olaes of Hanahan, SC; brother, Bednar "Jimmy" Vallido Olaes of San Jose, CA; grandson, Grayson B. Olaes; granddaughter, Sophia T. Olaes all of Hanahan, SC; two sisters, Leodegaria Sidocon of Cavite and Rosa Aquino of Cavite, Philippines.
