Opal “Gwen” W. Tyre, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.

Born in August 1929 in Milledgeville, Georgia, Gwen was the daughter of the late Blondell Williams and Opal Irene Williams. She married the late Adolphus Rowe Tyre, and together they settled in Riverland Terrace on James Island in 1960. She was a devoted friend to many, remembered for her enduring kindness, curiosity, and warmth. An avid reader and long-time subscriber to The Post and Courier, she took great joy in learning about the world around her.

Gwen is survived by her loving caregivers, neighbors, and dear friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.
