Oliver Stevenson “Steve” Kennedy, Jr. 76, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Laverne "Jo" Buero Kennedy, entered eternal rest Thursday, September 19, 2024. His gathering of friends of family will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Following the gathering, his graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Park at 1:00 pm.
Steve was born January 13, 1948, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Oliver S. Kennedy, Sr. and the late Nelma Piggott Kennedy. Steve’s employment included Westvaco, the Charleston Naval Shipyard, and the City of North Charleston. He also worked as a substitute teacher for Charleston County School District. For decades, Steve could be seen working as a stadium official for The Citadel at football, baseball, and basketball games. He volunteered for the City of North Charleston during the 1970s and 1980s coaching recreational baseball and football, as well as coaching the Cooper River Boxing teams. He was a political enthusiast. One of his past-times was watching political news, so he was always ready and willing to converse with friends and family about political events. His greatest past-time of all was watching his son and grandchildren play sports. Steve rarely missed their sporting events. He was the life of the party and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a great storyteller. His ability to tell stories brought lots of laughter to those listening.
In addition to his wife, Jo, he is survived by children: Sean Kennedy (Alyce) of Hanahan, SC, Terri Shockley (Ronnie) of North Charleston, SC, Tillman L. Jordan, Jr. of North Charleston, SC, and Troy L. Jordan (Rhonda) of North Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Wesley Kennedy (Kimmie), Abigail Kennedy Mueller (Hunter); brother, Craig Kennedy (Cindy) of Columbia, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Walker Jordan.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Agape Care and Tameka with Affordable Home Healthcare for the care provided to Steve.
