Olga Y. "Olguita"
Brazzel
Sep 27, 1936 — Aug 16, 2026
Charleston
It is with a heavy heart that we share that our mother, Olga Y. “Olguita” Brazzel, passed away Sunday night, August 16, 2026 at her home in Charleston, SC.
Mom lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and service to others. Up until her early 80s, she still volunteered as a translator with Health Talents International (Guatemala) and volunteered at Kaiser Permanente (Folsom, CA).
She was born and raised in Mexico City, where she became a teacher. She met her one true love, Arlin Brazzel, in 1958, and they married 2 years later (1960) in Mexico City. They began their life together in Sacramento, California, where they shared 50 years of marriage together before Arlin died in March 2010. We can only imagine the joy of their reunion in heaven.
Her life was marked by commitment to family, raising son, David (Mt. Pleasant, SC) and daughter, Cynthia (Aptos, CA) instilling in them an understanding and love of her heritage, promoting curiosity of other cultures, travel and music, and serving as a spiritual guidepost.
Olga was the oldest of three children and was preceded in death by her parents, Maria del Pilar Lizardi Formento and Jorge Jesús Ansótegui Esparza; and siblings, Pedro Jesús and Emma.
Mom attended the Normal Superior and UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and obtained her masters degree from Chapman University in California. She worked as an educator, offering students a richer experience through cultural activities as well as Spanish language instruction, teaching at Bella Vista High School (Fair Oaks, CA) and American River College (Sacramento).
Mom's Christian faith was the steady pulse, her life a quiet but powerful testimony to being faithful to her calling and to the love of Christ.
We are grateful for the legacy of faith, love, and service she leaves behind.
She is survived by her family: son, David and is wife Christina Brazzel; daughter, Cynthia Brazzel Allen; and grandchildren, Benjamin Brazzel, Alondra Brazzel, Hailey Collier, Tyler Allen and Parker Allen; as well as her loving cousins, nieces and nephews in Merida, Yucatán and Mexico City.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials or donations are gratefully accepted to Health Talents International. https://www.healthtalents.org/.
Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
