Novella A. Fisher passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning January, 24, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Oliver G. and Irene M. Nettles of Charleston, and is survived by her husband, John S. Fisher; brother, Bernard O. Nettles (Jane); two daughters, Novella Lynn Percival (Joel) and Deborah J. Fisher (Larry Haigh); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Affectionately known to many as "Novie," she was a true Southern Belle who led a life of quiet service. Even as a child, she demonstrated deep caring as she assisted her father, who had been seriously injured in a fall. Later, she compassionately attended to her mother for some years at home. Throughout her life, she visited the sick and lonely, and baked cakes to show gratitude to anyone who served her. She maintained long friendships through her service. Novie loved others unselfishly.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She met John - her husband of 62 years - when he was stationed in Charleston in 1955. After they married, she was strong and resourceful as she raised her children and nurtured family bonds during his Naval career. His duties took them all over the United States and also overseas, and everywhere she went, she turned heads with her beautiful auburn hair.
Novie loved learning and reading, and gave time as the secretary of the Library Guild. She pursued many creative interests, often experimenting with new painting techniques, sewing projects, ceramics, and other crafts. She has a great love for nature as well, filling her home with vases of flowers and artistic renderings of all kinds of birds. She especially loved hummingbirds and the shore birds native to this area. She had joy in God's perfect creation, whether it was a new blossom on a favorite plant, or birds at the bird feeder. And we know He is welcoming her to all of His glorious grandeur now.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Sunday from 2:00 pm until time of the service.
