Norwood Hampton Williams

August 1, 1922 — December 16, 2014

Norwood Hampton Williams, Jr., 92, of North Charleston, SC, widower of Margaret Beatrice Beane Williams, went to be with his heavenly Father on the evening of Tuesday, December 16, 2014. A Service of Reflection will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Interment to follow in Carolina Memorial Cemetery, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Norwood was born August 1, 1922 in Asheville, NC, son of the late Norwood Hampton Williams, Sr., and the late Edna Davis Williams. He was a Cummins retiree who was known by many as a quiet and sweet man who never complained. He had a passion for animals of all kinds to include strays. It was not unusual for him to take in a Mama Kitty and end up raising a litter, naming and feeding them all. He leaves behind his beloved Noel, a 15 year old Miniature Pincher who he lovingly called "Bobble Tail." He loved to go to new places and enjoyed the cuisine. As an international traveler, he and his wife traveled often with family. As a boy, the family moved to Summerton, SC where he attended public schools. He remained there until enhanced career opportunities beckoned him to Charleston, SC. Once there, it was not unusual to see him fishing or shrimping off the Battery with his pets. He often told humorous stories of his youth, i.e. hunting both Asheville, NC and Summerton, SC areas and playing gags on others. Norwood was a born again Christian of the Pentecostal faith and loved the Lord.
He is survived by his son, Norwood H. Williams (Marilyn) of Manning, SC; daughter, Katherine Farmer (Jim) of Falkville, AL; step-son Harold E. Segrest, Jr. (Erlinda) of San Antonio, TX; step-daughter, Linda Saylor Lankosz (Romek) of North Charleston, SC; Louie A. Williams (Betty) of Myrtle Beach, SC; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, T. David Williams, and his sister, Larona DeWitt. Memorials may be made to Pet Helpers, 447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
