Norman Eugene Smith, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, husband of Merinda Lucille Yovannone Smith entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 21, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 in James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Beaufort National Cemetery, Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Thursday in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Norman was born January 26, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Cyrus Abel Smith and Ruth Verbena Hildebrand Smith. Norman served as a Pilot in the United States Marine Corps and retired as President and CEO of Vincent Metal Goods. Norman was formerly on the Board of Directors for the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity and Seabrook Island Club, a longtime member of the Charleston Symphony Choir, a member of the Chamber Music of Charleston and a church elder and choir member of Johns Island Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of James Island Presbyterian Church.
Norman was an avid golfer who loved to make others laugh. He traveled the world, lived life to the fullest and was grateful for all he had been blessed with in his life. He had a sincere and avid interest in people he met and was a kind and generous friend. Above all, he loved and cherished his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Merinda; daughters: Julie McCulloch (Warren) of Seabrook Island, SC and Stacey Smith (Terry Symanietz) of Eagan, MN; son, Wain Smith (Helen) of Ripley, TN and grandson, Logan Smith (USAF) stationed in the United Arab Emirates.
