Norman Wesley Rodgers, CDT, of Goose Creek, SC, husband of Kay E. Schugeld Rodgers, died Thursday, July 31, 2014. His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, in the Peace Lutheran Church, 8315 Dorchester Road, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Friday, August 8, 2014, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Norman was born October 18 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, son of the late Ralph Wesley Rodgers and the late Jewel Olive Jeffress Rodgers. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a graduate of Ohio State University. He taught at Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI and at the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY. Norman's career as a dental tech instructor at MUSC began in 1969 and he retired in 2005. He was a member of American Legion Post 166 in Goose Creek, the Charleston Rifle Club and a life member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed both ball room and square dancing. He loved to spend time with his wife and family and flying kites.
He is survived by his wife, Kay E. Rodgers; step-son, Harvey "Skip" W. Bogard Jr. of Roanoke, VA; step-daughter, Debra B. Leach (Craig D.) of Goose Creek; three grandchildren, Kirstin B. Tanner (Hurshel) of Goose Creek, Daniel C. Leach (Sarah) of Columbus, OH and Brett D. Leach of Fort Meade, MD; two great-grandchildren, Hurshel, Jr. and Ellie Tanner, both of Goose Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith Ann Wubbolt.
