Norman Hamilton McNair, Jr., 95, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 7, 2026. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026 in Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 N. Highway 17, Mount Pleasant at 3:00 pm, followed by inurnment in the Christ Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends at the church following the inurnment. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Norm was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 2,1931. He shared his father’s love of wood and wood-working. This became a lifelong passion for him. His parents, Norman and Mary Louise, and sister, Polly, were always very special to him.

After High School he attended Miami University, Ohio and then transferred to The University of Virginia to study and graduate as a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. While there, he met and married Cynthia and moved with IBM to Nashville, TN where they raised three sons, Gregory, Michael and David and formed many lasting friendships. Cynthia and Norm moved to San Antonio, TX when the boys were grown. There he continued working in computer sales and data software and also at the Ecumenical Center. Norm loved their life and volunteer work in San Antonio.

In 2002 Cynthia and Norm moved to Mt Pleasant where he became an Auditor for the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. He loved that job and was loved by all whose lives he touched.

In 2011, Cynthia was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer and died in August of the same year. They had been married for 57 years.

Norm always said he was twice blessed because in 2013 he and Judith became Life Partners. As well as his own children, he inherited more children, grands and later great grands and always said “His Cup Runneth Over”! He loved to travel and travel he did, to England, Kenya, Israel, Maine and even Disney World where he celebrated his 90th Birthday riding the Tower of Terror!

Norm leaves behind a large family of children, grands and great grands, a sister, Polly, and as he always referred to her, My Judith.

Norm wanted to be remembered as A Good Man, who left this world better than where he found it. He treasured the relations he formed throughout the churches, Rotary Clubs and communities he served.

He will always be remembered for his love of all people, his grace, gentleness, kindness, honesty, his wooden masterpieces and the holding crosses he lovingly made for those in need of the tangible evidence of God’s love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels or Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 N. Highway 17, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
