Norman Wilson Kirkland, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Linda Kay Branton Kirkland entered into eternal rest Friday, February 2, 2024. His service will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 in the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Willie was born January 28, 1947 in Denmark, South Carolina, the youngest of the late Woodrow W. Kirkland and the late Emmette Sharpe Kirkland's three children. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1973 including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After which Willie was a supervisor for AT&T and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. In 1983 he returned to the military and joined the National Guard. During this time he was a recruiter for nearly five years before retiring in 2000. He was a life member and chaplain for the Marion Marauders Society, a member of the Isle of Palms VFW, and First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Willie and several friends were known as the "Rascals" a group of avid golfers.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; son, Robert "Robbie" Kirkland of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Richard Kirkland of Mt. Pleasant and John Kirkland (Carla) of Florence, SC; nephew, John Kirkland of Columbia, SC; niece, Maria Kessler (Jon) of Charleston, SC; and his dog, Misty the Mini Schnauzer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by niece; Dixie Louise Kirkland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Ronald McDonald House 81 Gadsden St, Charleston, SC 29401.
