Norman Thomas Joy, 78, of James Island, SC, husband of Joan Harper Joy entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 22, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 pm to 2:00 p.m. in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel.
Norman was born July 24, 1935 in Hopewell, VA, son of Hugh Lawson Joy and Mary Foster Joy. He was retired from the Social Security Administration where he worked as an Assistant District Manager. Norman was an Army veteran serving as a Specialist, 2nd Class Sergeant with the 709th Ordinance Battalion, 9th Infantry Division in Ulm, Germany. He held a B.A. degree in Economics from Randolph Macon College, was a member of the American Legion Post 147 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Charleston Area Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Harper Joy of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Emily Joy Basiaga (Jeff) of Tampa, FL; his son, Stephen Joy (Kara) of James Island, SC; his brother, Wayne Joy of Miami, FL; and his granddaughters, Megan Basiaga and Ashley Joy.
