Norman Adelbert Hanf, Jr., 72, of Charleston, SC passed away September 10, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman Adelbert Hanf, Sr. and Thela Mae Hanf, as well as his parents-in-love, Eddie Stelljes and Betty “Boo” McMahon Stelljes. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Terri Hanf McManus, Joanne Hanf Hain, and Susan Hanf Gilbert.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Susie Stelljes Hanf; their three daughters, Ashley Hanf McGlothlin (Dan), Abbey Hanf, and Allison Hanf; and his cherished grandchildren, Blake Hanf Barnette and Annabel Hanf McGlothlin. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Hanf, Nancy Hanf Boozer (Jim), and Barbara Hanf Henson (Jay); his brother, Tommy Hanf (Robin); his brothers-in-law Bobby Gilbert (Susan) and Sammy McManus (Terri) and many other dear family members.
A cornerstone of the food and beverage community from 1970 to 1990, Norman founded Mupp’s, London’s, Norman’s Restaurant, and most notably, Norm’s Pizza and Subs alongside his wife, Susie. Together, they worked tirelessly until their retirement in 1998. In 2008, Norman returned to the restaurant business with his wife and daughters, resuming management of Norm’s on Calhoun Street until its closure in 2016.
Beyond his professional life, Norman was deeply involved in the community. He coached little league football, women’s softball, and dedicated countless hours to coaching his daughters' softball teams from t-ball through high school. Known for his generous spirit, Norman delighted in dressing up as Santa Claus, bringing joy to neighborhood children with a homemade sleigh and brightly lit home. He also proudly participated as Santa in the Mount Pleasant Parade.
Norman’s legacy is one of dedication and community spirit. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family will receive guests on Friday, September 13, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
