Norma "Vonnie" Reid Planton, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Captain David Nash Planton, USNR (Ret) passed away peacefully with her family by her side Friday, September 12, 2014. The relatives and friends of Vonnie Planton are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 14, 2014, at the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 3:00 until time of the service.
Vonnie was born January 9, 1928 in Nashville, Tennessee, daughter of the late L. Guy Reid and the late Gertrude Maddox Reid. She attended Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. When she married the love of her life, Captain Dave in 1946, she became a homemaker and loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was an accomplished artist and a devout Christian. She loved the Lord with all her heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam P. Schwacke and her husband, Buddy, of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Eric Planton and his wife, Sharon, of Ranlo, NC and Phil Planton and his wife, Kathie, of Charleston, SC; seven grandsons, Michael Tucker, Scott Tucker, Aaron Planton, Jason Planton, Jonathan Planton, Ryan Planton and Drew Planton; a granddaughter, Caryn Winstead; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Jan P. O'Neil, and grandson, David Christian.
