Norma Roberta O'Brien, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Norma was born July 8, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late George Strong O'Brien and Julia McCarrel. She was a graduate of Rivers High School and alumni of Montreat College and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, where she obtained her Master’s degree in Religion. She worked as a teacher in the Atlanta, GA school system for 25 years. Norma was a great athlete, even working as a girls’ basketball coach, and took pride in her tennis skills. She was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, and had a passion for serving children in need with Hands for Christ.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Drose; nephews, Gerald (Dina Zeckhausen) Drose, Michael (Laura De La Maza ) Drose; great-nephews, Nicholas Leonard, Cooper Drose, Schuyler Drose, Christopher Drose, and Oliver Drose; and great-nieces, Jessica Lawson, Lauren Klasen, Gabrielle Drose.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby O'Brien; and her niece, Julie Drose Leonard.
