Mrs. Norene Cooper, 87, of Port St. Joe, FL passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 after a lengthy illness in the care of her daughters, in Hanahan, SC.
Born in Thomas County GA, she was a 1942 graduate of Thomasville High School, Thomasville, GA. She had been a resident of Port St. Joe since 1953. She was a homemaker, department store clerk, office clerk for Apalachicola Northern Railroad, and retired from the offices of Drs. Poonai & Poonai. Mrs. Cooper was a fine seamstress, avid gardener and caring friend to all who knew her. While residing in SC, Norene enjoyed the attention of many new friends when she became a member of the Hanahan Senior Center. She was a Methodist by faith.
Mrs. Cooper is preceded in death by her husband, Ivey J. Cooper; parents, Robert L. Jackson, Sr. and Gladys Jackson; two brothers, William Warren Jackson and Robert L. Jackson, Jr.; and two sisters, Geraldine VanLandingham and Maxine Walker. She is survived by her daughters, Rita Lucas of Hanahan, SC and Sonia Minors of Hanahan, SC. She also leaves, to cherish her memory, three grandchildren: Kim Lucas and husband Stein Kosi of Taylorsville, NC, Brandon Lucas and wife Danielle of Poquoson, VA and Brittany Lauren Minors and husband Tripp Massengill of Charleston, SC; and three great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Ruby and Ivey Lucas of Poquoson, VA.
The funeral service and interment will be private. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Thursday, January 19, 2012 between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
