Nina Louise Smyly Spaulding, 80, of North Charleston, SC, widow of David Claude Spaulding, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 9, 2018 after a long and brave battle with cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 16 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Drive, Charleston, SC. Interment at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, N. Charleston from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, June 15.
Nina was born on April 17, 1938 in North Charleston, SC. She was the daughter of the late Cuthbert and Dorothy Smyly. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, and her brothers George and Jimmy Smyly. She loved life and valued family and friends above all. Her loving nature made everyone feel at ease in her presence. She was a dedicated member of the same community for 58 years where friends and neighbors became her second family. She served as the secretary of the Charleston Farms Community Center for many years. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where she served on the altar guild and volunteered with the day school. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends, and caring for stray animals.
She is survived by her children, David L. Spaulding, II (Brandy) of Wilmington, NC, Laura Spaulding Cooper (Christopher "Kit") of Hanahan, SC, three grandchildren, Katarina Regan Cooper, Christopher "Kit" David Cooper, Jr., and Sarah Elizabeth Spaulding, and two sisters, Katherine Bowman and Gail Riggs (Bill), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
