Nina Ann Sellew, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Hilton Head and Bluffton, and wife of the late Arthur Raymond Sellew, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, John Fox Scholfield and Irene Fitzgerald Scholfield. Her Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born on April 28, 1951, in Washington, DC, Nina was the youngest of four children and the daughter of a naval officer. Her childhood took her across the United States and Europe, including residences in Alexandria, VA; Whidbey Island, WA; Alameda, CA; Corpus Christi, TX; Brunswick, ME; Glenview, Il; Fairhaven, MA; and Savannah, GA. These early experiences fostered her outgoing, independent, and orderly spirit.
Known for her impeccable housekeeping, Nina was guided by the mantras “a clean ship is a happy ship” and “now, not later.” She loved animals, especially her sheepdogs, cats, and French bulldog grand-dogs. No cat ever had a better diet than she lovingly provided, and her dogs knew she always had a treat or toy hidden in her purse. Above all, Nina will be remembered as the ultimate homemaker and gourmet cook. Friends and family cherished her meals, with Thanksgiving as her "Superbowl." While she approached every meal with dedication, her culinary skills rivaled the finest chefs in Charleston.
Nina was generous in spirit, a loyal friend to many, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother. Nina is survived by her son, Wesley Fox Sellew (Susan), and grandsons: Fox and Haile Sellew of Charleston; her sisters: Suzanne Petrie (Don) of Summerville and Maureen Riccoboni (Rick) of Mt. Pleasant; and her brother, Jay Scholfield (Grace) of Atlanta.
