Nina Moseley Cochran Gage, age 90, died on July 18, 2011, at her residence at Bishop Gadsden in Charleston, SC.
She was born on October 16, 1920, in Abbeville, SC, the daughter of the late Benjamin Thompson Cochran and Ruth Syfan Cochran. She graduated from Greenwood High School and Winthrop University. She was married to the late George Williams Gage, Jr. for 64 years.
In 1999, she and George moved to Bishop Gadsden from Fort Mill, SC where he had been a Vice President of Springs Industries since leaving military service after World War II. They were active in the Bishop Gadsden community and had many friends among their neighbors and the Bishop Gadsden staff.
Nina had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for her creativity and her love of people and her family. She always made those around her feel comfortable and appreciated. She enjoyed many years of playing tennis, golf, watercolor painting, gardening and was an active in many volunteer organizations. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook, with an interest in nutrition, her college major. She and George enjoyed traveling with friends throughout the United States and Europe.
She is survived by four children: Ruth Gage Bragg and her husband, Garry of Jacksonville, FL, Jane Gaston Gage Furtado and her husband, Donald of Charleston, SC, George Williams Gage, III and his wife, Susan Lytle of Tampa, FL, Benjamin Cochran Gage of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Nina Gage Robertson McManus, Brenda Bragg Both, Shannon Bragg Green, Claude Davis Robertson, III, Donald Branch Furtado, Benjamin Gage Furtado, George Williams Gage Furtado, Kelsey Hilburn Gage and Alexia Harrington Gage; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Cochran Reed, of Greenville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Gage Fairey and her husband Phil of Columbia, SC and Elizabeth(Betty) Oates Gage of Spartanburg, SC. She is preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Theodore Wannamaker Gage and Robert Gage, II, Frederick Edgar Reed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 in the Chapel at Bishop Gadsden at 2:00pm.
