Neva Florence DeWitt, 87, of Charleston, SC widow of Robert Louis DeWitt, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 13, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston at 10:00 am. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
Neva was born January 10, 1938, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Charles Joseph Watts and the late Lillian Dorothy Whitley Rauth Watts. Neva was a gifted artist, whose paintbrush brought to life the enchanting scenes of Charleston, capturing its timeless beauty, as well as the delicate Southern Magnolia florals and graceful birds native to her beloved South. Her works not only showcased her immense talent but also her profound appreciation for the world around her. Her professional life included a significant role as a clothing inspector with Levi Strauss, a position that highlighted her attention to detail and dedication to quality. Beyond her career, Neva embraced her role as a homemaker with great pride. She devoted her time and energy to her family while also engaging in her community. Neva was a proud Charleston County police wife, demonstrating unwavering support for her husband’s service. Her dedication extended to the local schools, where she made a difference in the lives of many children by working in the lunchroom and volunteering as a room mother at Brentwood Elementary. Through her involvement in the school, she created lasting memories for countless students.
In addition to her artistic pursuits and community service, Neva participated in meaningful charitable efforts, showcasing her compassionate spirit through initiatives like assembling Christmas boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. She found joy in spreading kindness and ensuring that children in need felt loved and remembered during the holiday season.
She is survived by her two daughters, Angela DeWitt Johnson of Yulee, FL and Robin DeWitt Austin (Tim) of Sevierville, TN; three grandchildren, Megan Popham (Andrew) of Folkston, GA, Noelle Bohanan (Dalton) of Sevierville, TN and Josh Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; and a brother, Charles Watts (Vivian). She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis DeWitt, her parents, Charles Joseph Watts and Lillian Rauth Watts, grandson, Joel Austin, son in law, Michael Johnson and four siblings Elizabeth Lewis, Dorothy Mitchum, John Watts, and Betty Blizzard .
