Nellie "Nell" Shaw McDuffie

Nellie "Nell" Shaw McDuffie, 93, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 25, 2024. The family will receive friends Friday, April 5, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. Interment will be held by the family at Bluefield Methodist Church in Clarkton, NC at a later date

Nellie was born December 11, 1930 in Clarkton, North Carolina, one of nine children born to the late Henry Shaw and the late Clara Guyton Shaw.    Affectionately known as Granny, she loved nothing more than cooking a meal for her family and having her family around her dining room table.  Her “green thumb” was the savior for so many plants and flowers.  They grew abundantly in her yard and house.   She baked cakes for weddings and birthdays.  She sewed Halloween costumes and hemmed pants and fixed clothes for anyone that asked. She adored her many cats.

She loved the Isle of Palms where she lived for 60 years.  She volunteered at the Isle of Palms Recreation Department for years while her boys were growing up. She served as Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Isle of Palms from 1974-1997.  At retirement then Isle of Palms Mayor Carmen Bunch declared February 9th Nell McDuffie Day on the Isle of Palms. During her time at the city, she was awarded The Order of the Palmetto by then governor  Carroll Campbell on February 5th 1988.

She is survived by her children, Ernie  McDuffie (Kathy), Steve McDuffie (Wanda), Charlie McDuffie (Nancy), and Jeff McDuffie; grandchildren, Jennifer McDuffie, Sean McDuffie (Karen), Steven McDuffie (Kristin), Bryce McDuffie, Keegan McDuffie, Kyleigh McDuffie, and Kierra McDuffie; and great-grandchildren,  Amber Ferri, Ashlyn Ferri, Anslee  McDuffie, Harper McDuffie, and Tripp McDuffie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, an infant daughter, and her granddaughter, Heather McDuffie Ferri.

Memorials may be made to  Bluefield Methodist Church, Attn: Dennis Strickland, 2107 Elkton Rd., Clarkton, NC 28433.
