Nell Hogan Prevost of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Blair Crayton Prevost entered into eternal rest Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Her funeral service will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Interment, 2:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Greeleyville, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Nell was born January 15, 1912 in Greeleyville, South Carolina, daughter of Samuel William Hogan and Mary Louise Land Hogan and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Boyle and Mr. and Mrs. John Calhoun Land. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School, attended Duke University Nursing School and graduated in 1933 from Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Anderson, SC. She taught Sunday School in Westminster Presbyterian Church on Rutledge Avenue for many years. She was a Registered Nurse working with the Medical University of South Carolina in "The Clinic" for 15 years, and with The American Red Cross Blood Bank. After moving to Savannah, GA, she worked with Memorial Medical Center where she received the "Outstanding Nurse of the Year" award in 1969. Returning to Charleston in 1970, she worked at Riverside Convalescent Center where she retired from her nursing career in 1973.
She loved gardening, reading and going to lunch with "The Clinic Girls" for more than 25 years. Every week for many years she had "Wednesday lunch" for her grandchildren. They would come on their lunch hour for what they called a "Sunday meal". She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and everyone will miss their "Gama". She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary "Bette" Elizabeth Prevost and Dorothy "Dottie" Anne Prevost both of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Anne Sirey Rumph Sigouin of Atlanta, GA, Bryan Pittman Rumph of Charleston, SC, Jeffrey Michael Bunch of Orlando, FL, Cheryl Blair Rumph Glaze of James Island, SC, granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly McCranie Bunch of Charleston, SC, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, five nieces and three nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Martha Hogan Roberts and Florrie Lee Hogan Brown, a brother, Cunningham Sanders "Buster" Hogan, one grandson, James Derrick Bunch, and a granddaughter, Julie Elizabeth Bunch.
