Nancy Wilkins Blakeney, wife of Eugene DuBose Blakeney III, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. The funeral service for immediate family only will be held Monday, January 11, 2021 in St. Philip's Church. Interment in Churchyard will be private.
Mrs. Blakeney was born in Charleston, SC on August 30, 1939, the daughter of the late John W. and Charlotte M. Wilkins. She graduated from James Island High School and from the College of Charleston, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Mrs. Blakeney did graduate work at the University of Alabama at Huntsville as well as at Alabama A&M University. She taught school for 32 years. She was also the co-owner of a gift shop in Atlanta.
Mrs. Blakeney was a member of St. Philip's Church where she was active on the Compassion Committee, served as a greeter and on the prayer chain. She regularly participated in Bible Studies at the Church. Mrs. Blakeney was an associate member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston. She served as an officer of First Families of South Carolina and the St. Paul's Garden Club. Mrs. Blakeney was a member of the Ft. Sullivan Chapter of the DAR, the Riverland Terrace Garden Club and the Exchange Club of St. Paul's Parish. She also served as an Advisory Council Representative from St. Philip's Church at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Home. Mrs. Blakeney was a member of the Magna Carta Dames and the Huguenot Society of South Carolina.
Surviving are her husband, Eugene DuBose Blakeney III; two sons: Richard L. Jones, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Wesley E. Jones (Michelle) of Los Angeles, CA; two daughters: Sharon E. Jones and Cynthia E. Jones both of Charleston, SC; three step-sons: Eugene DuBose Blakeney IV (Molly) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Stuart Bissell Blakeney (Karen) of Charleston, SC and Christopher Bennett Blakeney (Becky) of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Gloria W. Wertz of Charleston, SC; and one brother, John W. Wilkins, Jr. (Andrena) of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren: Conner A. Jones of Atlanta, GA, Ethan W. Jones, Zachary F. Jones and Meghan N. Jones all of Los Angeles, CA; as well as four step-grandchildren: Samuel Lawrence Blakeney, Elisabeth DuBose Blakeney both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Timothy Graham McGinnis (Sara) of Eureka, CA and Andrew Blakeney McGinnis of Asheville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Blakeney was predeceased by her first husband, Richard L. Jones; brother-in-law, Bobby G. Wertz, step-daughter, Catherine Ellen Blakeney and sister, Jean W. Peck.
