Nancy Ann Vath, age 93, of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the MUSC Medical Center in Charleston, SC.
Nancy was born May 15, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late H. Rex and Marcella Hawkins. A proud 1950 graduate of Western Hills High School, she went on to attend the University of Cincinnati. On June 9, 1956, she married the love of her life, James E. Vath, at Westwood United Methodist Church.
In 1970, the Vath family relocated to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where Nancy became a pillar of the community. A devoted member of First United Methodist Church, she found great joy in the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Nancy was known for her gifted hands and creative spirit; she was a member of the Oak Ridge Women’s Club, a talented costume-maker for the Oak Ridge High School Masquers Club, a blanket knitter with Trinity Knitters, and a dedicated Chrismon-maker with the FUMC Aldersgate.
Nancy is survived by her son David Todd Vath and his wife Rebecca L. Vath of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandchildren: Madeleine E. (Tyler) Wagner of Richmond, Virginia, and Keegan David Matthew Vath of Charleston; and her great-granddaughters Lillian Reese Wagner and Posey Faye Wagner of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Edward Vath.
A memorial service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Nancy will be interred in the church’s Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the First United Methodist Church Chrismon Tree Fund 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
