Nancy Ford Nelson Brown Tweed, born March 7, 1936 joined her Lord on March 2, 2019 from her home in Rantowles Creek in Ravenel. She was born in Warrenton, VA, the daughter of Frances Anderson Shepherd and Thomas Franklin Nelson, Jr., both of who predeceased her along with her esteemed grandmother, Ethel Shirley Anderson, a guiding light of her life.
Nancy graduated from the University of Richmond, Richmond, VA in 1958 with a BA degree in Economics and married Donald Carter Brown the same year. They are the parents of two daughters, Laura Lynne Brown of Washington State and Sandra Ford Brown Coons and her fiancé Jim Nettles of Charleston, SC. Sandra is mother of son, Tyler Alexander Coons and daughter, Summer "Sunny" Elise Coons. Nancy is survived by those family members and her devoted friend, Paul Bridges Foster.
In 1983, Nancy received a MA degree in American Studies from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and was employed by the Maryland-National Capitol Park and Planning Commission until her retirement in 1998 when she moved to Charleston County. In 2000, she married Fred Ashworth Tweed. He predeceased her in 2008.
She was a member of Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Meggett where a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Burial following in the Churchyard. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
She requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pet Helpers on Folly Road. She was active in the St. Paul's Garden Club, the Charleston Horticultural Society, a Clemson Master Gardner , a member of the Avinger Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution following in the footsteps of her mother, Frances and grandmother, Ethel.
Her cremated remains will be interred with those of her husband, Fred in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery.
