Nancy Atkins Ray

May 18, 1951 — September 7, 2021

Nancy passed away peacefully on September 7, 2021, after a full and rewarding life. She was a gifted middle school educator and administrator for more than 35 years in both Duval County, Florida and Horry County, South Carolina. She was passionate about her students and devoted to helping others realize their dreams. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Allan; her brother, Mickey Atkins; and her parents, Jim and Lillian Atkins. She is survived by her son, Matthew; her sister, Sharon Fallon; a loving extended family; and many dear friends. For her, however, there was a family that included thousands of students whom she loved and nurtured, and fellow teachers with whom she stayed connected. She was also a talented artist who inspired those around her with a creative spirit that will last forever.

Born in 1951 in Jacksonville, Florida to Lillian and Jim Atkins, Nancy attended Terry Parker High School and graduated from Jacksonville University and University of North Florida with degrees in Education. She taught Science to 4th through 8th grades during her career, but was passionate on any subject that would develop the minds of young people. In 1988, she married Allan Ray, and they enjoyed over 28 years of marriage together in Pleasant View, South Carolina with the love of their life, son Matthew.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to any charitable organization seeking a cure for cancer.

A Celebration of Nancy's Life will be held at a later date, and will be available virtually for those who cannot attend in person. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
