Nancy Klemm Ponder, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She was born in Erie, PA to parents William and Florence Klemm. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd at 6:00 pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
Nancy's legacy is defined by her devotion to her family. She married the love of her life, Jim Ponder, and together they raised their four children: Mark Ponder (Patty), Gary Ponder (September), Karen Ponder Brown, and Patsy Ponder Ivey (Eric).
Throughout her life, she engaged in various activities that brought joy to her days. As a Den Mother and Girl Scout leader, she touched the lives of countless young individuals. Moreover, Nancy's creativity knew no bounds as she blossomed as a talented floral designer and writer. She proudly showcased her literary prowess with published works in esteemed magazines such as Cosmopolitan and The New Yorker. Additionally, Nancy's poetic talents garnered recognition through numerous awards from prestigious organizations like the South Carolina Poetry Society and the Georgia Literary Society.
An avid reader and trivia enthusiast, Nancy always sought knowledge and intellectual stimulation. Her passion for exploration led her to embark on many memorable trips and camping adventures that enriched her connection with nature and the world around her.
Faith was an integral part of Nancy's life; she wholeheartedly shared her devotion by teaching Sunday School and volunteering at Vacation Bible School. She found solace within the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church where she embraced her loving nature by caring for infants in the nursery.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who survive her: four children and their families—Andy Brown (Landry), Kaitlin Brown Forte, Robert Ponder (Margaret), Ansley Ponder Mosher (Jarred), Ryan Ponder (MacKenzie), Daniel Ponder, Mariah Ivey, and James Ivey. Nancy was also blessed with the joy of great-grandparenthood through Jacob Brown, Lindsey Forte, Joshua Brown, and James Ponder.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Franke at Seaside Keil Healthcare Center and Lutheran Hospice for their exceptional care during Nancy's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Lutheran Hospice - 1885 Rifle Range Rd. Suite 46, Mt. Pleasant, SC or East Cooper Meals on Wheels - PO Box 583 Mt. Pleasant, SC 29465.
Nancy Lee Klemm Ponder will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
